IEC is valid for a lifetime. You do not have to renew it every year, but you must update your details with DGFT in case of changes in address, ownership, or business name.
You do not need IEC if:
Goods are imported/exported for personal use, not for business.
You are registered under GST and using PAN as IEC for certain categories.
Specific government departments or ministries import/export goods.
If you change your business name, address, or bank details, you must apply for IEC modification to keep your license valid and up-to-date.
